At equal GPU frequencies, the Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card may be inferior to the Radeon RX 5700 XT. But in normal form it is much faster.

The tests for the Radeon RX 6700 XT have already been published, and we know that it is about 30% faster than its predecessor, depending on the game. It could be blamed on the new architecture, but the GPU frequencies of the new 3D card are much higher than that of the old one.

The TechSpot resource specialists decided to equalize the cards by this parameter in order to see what kind of gain is given by the architecture. Recall that the number of stream processors for the adapters is identical.

In this case, the GPU frequencies of both cards were set at 1800 MHz. No manipulations were carried out with the memory, because here the devices cannot be brought to a common denominator: they have a different bus, and the RX 6700 XT also uses a special cache.

So, as you can see, at equal GPU frequencies, the performance of the adapters is about the same. Somewhere it is absolutely identical, and somewhere the old card is even a little faster, but the difference is always minimal.

What does this mean? That the RDNA2 architecture was originally created by AMD not to provide the best performance with equal parameters. AMD has focused on the frequency range, increasing the maximum number of execution units, as well as on power consumption. Recall that the RX 6700 XT, with a significantly higher performance, consumes about 10-15% less power than the RX 5700 XT.

As a result, given that the technical process has not changed (7 nm), we can state that AMD has done a great job. True, only a few can appreciate this, given the lack of cards on sale.
