Four people have lost their lives and at least 22 others were injured in a fire that broke out yesterday, Monday, in a telecommunications building in downtown Cairo, according to a statement by Egyptian Health Ministry spokesman Hosham Abdel Gafar in Reuters. The fire at a Telecom Egypt installation, which according to state television was under control yesterday, has caused problems with telecommunications throughout the capital. The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talat said today that the services would be gradually restored within 24 hours. In today’s announcement, Telecom Egypt said it mourns for workers who died and offers its support for their families. Due to the fire, telephone communications were interrupted and internet access problems.
