At least 10 cities in Rio de Janeiro have no vaccine against Influenza A

While four cities in Rio de Janeiro admit that the Influenza A outbreak has turned into an epidemic, at least nine municipalities no longer have flu vaccines, to try to contain the spread of the virus. This is the total number of locations that confirmed the CNN not having more doses to continue with the immunization campaign.

This is the situation in Armação dos Búzios, Rio das Ostras and Saquarema, in the Lagos region, Duque de Caxias, Itaboraí, Itaguaí and Nilópolis, in the Metropolitan Region, Quatis, in Sul-Fluminense, Mangaratiba and Paty do Alferes, in Costa Verde . In all these locations, the available immunizations were applied and the city halls await the sending of a new shipment.

Of the four cities that already recognize that the outbreak of Influenza A has evolved into an epidemic, only Quatis, the smallest of them, is among those that also do not have immunization agents. According to the municipality, which has 14.5 thousand inhabitants, the forecast is to receive another 100 doses by Wednesday (15).

In the capital, which claims to have at least 23 thousand confirmed cases of Influenza A, in data updated last Thursday (9), vaccination was suspended for a week, due to lack of immunizing agents.

The campaign was resumed last Friday (10), after sending a shipment of 100,000 doses relocated by the State Department of Health (SES) and the donation of another 400,000 doses, by the government of São Paulo, through of the Butantan Institute.

Stock with counted duration

According to the municipal secretary of Health of Rio, Daniel Soranz, the stock is enough for the campaign to continue until next Monday (20).

The city and state are in the process of assembling and by the end of the week they will have 12 special tents to care for patients with flu-like symptoms. All in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Sought to take a stand on the expansion of the epidemic by the municipalities and the need to reinforce the stock of vaccines to proceed with the immunization campaign, the State Department of Health has not yet manifested itself.
