At least 13 Palestinians were killed in the Nuseirat camp in Gaza after an Israeli airstrike on Monday night (30).
The bodies were taken to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah this Tuesday (1st).
Some Palestinians said they feared that Israel’s shift in focus to Lebanon could prolong the conflict in Gaza, which marks its first anniversary next week.
“We fear that the whole world will focus on Lebanon and let the occupation (Israel) do whatever it wants in Gaza and commit its massacres and invasions in Gaza,” said Hassan al-Hor. “We hope that the war in Lebanon will be limited and stop soon because if the occupation invades Lebanon, it will have free rein in Gaza without focus from the media, international organizations or the United Nations,” Al-Hor added.
Another attack on a school housing displaced Palestinian families in the Tuffah neighborhood killed at least seven people, Palestinian doctors added.
The Israeli army said in a statement that the airstrike targeted Hamas militants operating from a command center built into a compound that previously served as the Al-Shejaia School.
The renewed rise in violence in Gaza comes as Israel began a ground operation in Lebanon, saying its paratroopers and commandos were involved in heavy fighting with Iran-backed Hezbollah. The conflict follows devastating Israeli air strikes against Hezbollah’s leadership.
