At least 1,300 civilians have died since the start of the Ukraine war, says UN

A new report released this Saturday (2) by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN) points out that at least 1,325 civilians died and 2,017 were injured in the Ukraine since the beginning of the war with the Russiaon February 24, to date.

Of the total, 120 dead were children, as were 168 of the wounded. The organization “considers that the actual figures are considerably higher, as the reception of information in some places where intense hostilities took place has been delayed and many reports are still pending substantiation”.

Ukraine’s Attorney General’s office, for example, says that 158 ​​children have died and 254 have been injured since the start of the conflict.

The regions of donetskKharkiv, MariupolLuhansk and Kiev claim to have a higher number of civilian deaths, but the UN says it is still trying to corroborate the data.

According to the report, most of the civilians who died in the conflict were victims of explosive weapons with a wide area of ​​impact, including heavy artillery bombardment, multiple-launch rocket systems and missiles and air strikes.

Almost half of the civilians killed (448) and more than half of the wounded (1,039) lived in the Donetsk and luhansktwo areas in the Donbass in which Russian-backed separatists try to take control.

The rest of the deaths (877) and injuries (978) were recorded in the city of Kiev and in the regions of Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Khersonm, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Zhytomyr.
