At least 15 dead in Guinea by landslide due to heavy rainfall near Kanaki

At least 15 people were killed by landslide on Wednesday night to Thursday in the suburbs of Kanana, the capital of Guinea, as it was today known by a hospital source. Soldiers and members of the Civil Protection Service are still looking for survivors in debris. After heavy rainfall, the ground fell on Wednesday night in the Mannea community, in the capital’s region. Ten people were injured and transported to a hospital in the neighboring city of Koya, according to the National Emergency and Humanitarian Management Agency (Anguch). Planning Minister Mori Konte said residents of the area are involved in rescue operations, guiding rescuers at the most dangerous points. Landscapes are a common phenomenon in Guinea during the rainfall, from June to September, mainly due to the anarchic construction on the slopes of the mountains and in flooding zones. Since the beginning of the rainy season, about 50 people have lost their lives. Source: RES
