At least 15 dead in the midst of an Ebola outbreak in Congo

The Congo People’s Republic is facing again with the rise of Ebola’s outbreaks, three years after the last epidemic wave. The country’s health ministry has announced that 28 suspicious cases and 15 deaths of patients have been recorded in the central province of Kassai. The first case was reported on August 20 and involved a 34 -year -old pregnant woman admitted to a hospital. Ebola virus has killed about 15,000 people in Africa over the last 50 years. Currently, the mortality rate is estimated at 53.6%. “This is the 16th epidemic recorded in our country,” said the Minister of Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The previous wave, three years ago, had claimed life to six people. Ebola’s most deadly epidemic in this vast country of Central Africa, with a population of over 100 million inhabitants, caused nearly 2,300 deaths from 2018 to 2020. […]
