At least 35 people die in a week amid violence in Mexico

The Sinaloa Prosecutor’s Office in Mexico reported Tuesday (17) that at least three more people died in shootings caused by clashes between two organized crime gangs in the state.

The death toll since the start of the new wave of violence in Sinaloa on September 9 has risen to 35, of which 33 are civilians and two are soldiers.

On Tuesday, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said his government was “attentive” to the violence in Sinaloa and asked the media not to act with “sensationalism.”

López Obrador also supported General Jesús Leana’s statements about how violence in the country is linked to the confrontation between two organized crime groups.

Jesús Leana Ojeda, commander of the Third Military Region in Sinaloa, during a press conference on Monday (16), considered that violence in the state will not decrease until organized crime groups stop the confrontation.

“We want it to happen as quickly as possible, but it doesn’t depend on us, it depends on the antagonistic groups stopping confrontations between them, so that the population can live in peace,” he commented.
