At least 5 cities in MG suspend classes after suspected bacterial infection in children

At least five cities in Minas Gerais suspended public classes after the death of three children suspected of being infected with the bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes. The information collected by CNN with municipal bodies.

The city of São João del-Rei issued an alert about the suspected infection that had caused the death of the three children, aged between three and 10 years. The Department of Health is still awaiting the report to prove the bacteria that caused the infection that resulted in death.

After the cases that occurred between September 24th and October 23rd, the city decided to suspend classes. The measure began last Wednesday (25) and continues until November 5, with the aim of disinfecting schools.

In addition, at least four other cities in the region took the same measure. The municipalities of Ritápolis, Santa Cruz de Minas, Tiradentes and Conceição da Barra de Minas suspended classes to carry out decontamination in municipal schools following the cases in the neighboring city.

Ritápolis said in a statement that it suspended classes in the city this Friday (27) to carry out disinfection.

Tiradentes City Hall began this Thursday (26) the disinfection process in municipal schools and public school transport.

The City of Conceição da Barra de Minas announced this Thursday (26) the start of disinfection in municipal schools, claiming that the “measure is only preventive and has no connection with possible cases of disease in our municipality”. Classes will remain suspended and will resume on Monday (30).

Wanted by CNN , the City of Santa Cruz de Minas reported that classes were suspended to carry out the disinfection process of the school environment and in squares that have playgrounds. Classes are also expected to resume on Monday (30).
