At least 50 dead from Israeli strikes in Gaza in the last 24 hours

More than 50 people were killed today by Israeli strikes in Gaza City, in the northern part of the Palestinian enclave, rescue services said. According to Civil Protection spokesman Mahmoud Basal, the enclave’s largest city was shelled throughout the day. Targets were “schools, homes and even gatherings of people.” In one of these strikes, eleven people were killed and many others injured in a house in Sujaiya district. Another shelling, against a group of Palestinians on Al Maamal Street, killed seven more. Five people were killed by the strike at a school in the Al Daraj neighborhood. “There is no room in the hospitals to treat the wounded,” added Basal. The bombings come as Hamas and Israeli officials say progress has been made in talks on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages still being held there after the Islamist Palestinian group attacked Israel on October 7. 2023.
