Fifty -six soldiers were arrested in Turkey today as suspected of relations with the late preacher Fethullah Gulen. Gulen was accused of orchestrating a coup attempt in 2016, the Istanbul prosecutor’s office announced. According to the state -run Anadolu news agency, these military military was arrested in 36 of the country’s 81 provinces, while another seven are still wanted. Turkish media reports that nine police officers were also arrested today for the same reasons. Fethullah Gulen, who passed away at the age of 83 at the end of October 2024 in the United States where he lived since 1999, was a close ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan before becoming an enemy of the latter.
