At least seven members of Peru’s cabinet have tendered their resignations in protest at President Pedro Castillo’s decision to dissolve Congress and call early parliamentary elections just hours before he faces a third impeachment vote against himself.
They include Environment Minister Wilbert Rozas, Finance Minister Kurt Burneo, Foreign Minister Cesar Landa and Justice Minister Felix Chero, who announced their resignations via Twitter on Wednesday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, César Landa
In strict adherence to my democratic and constitutional convictions and values, I have decided to irrevocably resign as Minister of Foreign Affairs, in light of President Castillo’s decision to close the Congress of the Republic, in violation of the Constitution.
I vehemently condemn this self-coup and appeal to the international community to help the democratic relapse in Peru. Castillo made this decision without my knowledge or support.
In strict adherence to my convictions and democratic and constitutional values, he decided to irrevocably resign from the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the decision by President Castillo to close the Congress of the Republic, in violation of the Constitution.
