At least four Brazilians have already died in the war in Gaza

Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, on October 7, at least four Brazilians have died in the conflict.

The four were victims of the Hamas attack that started the war. Itamaraty confirmed the first three deaths about a week after the Palestinian group advanced into Israeli territory, still in October last year. The fourth victim was confirmed this Friday (24), when the Israeli army confirmed having found the body of Michel Rosenbaun, aged 59, in Jabalia, in the north of the Gaza Strip.

Karla Stelzer

Karla Stelzer, 42, from Rio de Janeiro, died during the attack on an electronic music festival near the Gaza Strip. Karla is originally from Rio de Janeiro. She had lived in Israel for 11 years, worked as a teacher and had a 19-year-old son who serves in the Israeli Army.

Ranani Glazer

Ranani Glazer had disappeared after Hamas attacked the same electronic music party. The young man even posted, on a social network, the video he recorded inside a bunker during the bombing. Ranani is from Rio Grande do Sul. He had lived in Israel for seven years and had dual nationality. He did military service in the country, but recently worked as a delivery man.

Bruna Valeanu

Bruna Veleanu was born in Rio de Janeiro and lived in Petah Tikva. She moved to Israel eight years ago and was studying Communications and Sociology/Anthropology at Tel Aviv University. She was also a shooting instructor for the Israel Defense Forces for two years, between 2018 and 2020. She also worked in sales at an Israeli insurance company.

Michel Nisenbaum

Michel Nisenbaum was 59 years old and had lived in Israel since he was 12. He leaves two daughters and six grandchildren. Specialized in computing, Nisenbaum had recently started working as a tour guide in Israel. Nisenbaum's body had been held hostage by Hamas since October 7th. According to Israeli forces, he was killed during the October 7 invasion while on his way to pick up his granddaughter from a military base in northern Israel.

Family members were also victims

There is no clear estimate of how many family members of Brazilians were killed in the war in Gaza. Still, there are direct reports of relatives who died on both sides of the conflict.

Among them, the young Israeli Noam Elimelech Rotenberg, 24 years old, son of Brazilians, who is among the victims of Hamas attacks on Israel.

The Brazilian Hasan Rabee reported, in an interview with CNN , having lost practically his entire family in an Israeli attack on the southern region of the Gaza Strip. His cousin, his wife, his children and his grandchildren died in the episode.
