At least seven Indonesians drowned, When an overloaded boat capsized in an artificial lake on the island of Java because tourists on board wanted to take a selfie, it became known today by the Indonesian police.
The accident occurred yesterday, in Bogiolali, when the 20 passengers suddenly moved all together on one side of the boat to take a group photo, described the Java police chief Ahmad Lutfi, as broadcast by APE-MPE.
“The cause of the accident is the fact that the boat was overloaded”, Lufti explained to reporters.
“The 20 people took a selfie on the right end (of the boat), then the boat lost its balance and overturned.”
According to police, 11 people were rescued, but seven lost their lives. Two people are still missing and rescue teams are searching for them.
The investigators will examine whether there was negligence on the part of the organizers of the boat ride.
According to Lufti, a 13-year-old was at the helm at the time of the tragedy.
