At the age of 6, he fulfilled his dream of bringing drinking water to Africa; today he has his own foundation

Water is a natural element that everyone should have access to. However, in reality this is not the case. This is something Ryan Hreljac learned when he was only six years old.

His teacher explained in class that many children in Africa did not have access to clean water and had to walk for hours to get a few drops of the vital liquid. This worried Ryan and from that moment he promised to help those children. Years later he made his dream come true and now he has a foundation that works hard on it.

A dream that came true

I remember that another student asked how far they had to walk to get to a place with drinking water and she answered five thousand steps. I counted the steps that I had to take from the classroom to the nearest fountain and there were only ten.

Ryan was shocked to learn of this inequality and wanted to do something to help. So he got down to work and looked for information about it to help those children, finding a Canadian association that built wells in Africa, which he joined and began to donate all the money he collected from collections and sales of his own toys. .

But it wasn’t until a year after hard work and savings that he managed to raise enough money to build his first well, which cost $ 2,000 and was built at Angolo Primary School in northern Uganda. Ryan attended the opening ceremony with his parents in which the students chanted his name.

Now he has his own foundation

Encouraged by what he had achieved, Ryan continued working on the issue until he created his own foundation called Ryan’s Well Foundation, with which he has built more than 700 wells, giving access to drinking water to more than 736 thousand people in 30 countries in Africa. Asia and Central America.

Ryan is currently finishing his undergraduate studies in International Development and Political Science while working at his organization and conducting awareness workshops for more people to join his movement.
