At the bottom of the Pacific the next US-China Battle-Trump’s turn to underwater mining for critical metals

The Trump government is preparing an executive decree that will allow metal storage from the seabed of the Pacific Ocean to tackle China’s dominance in minerals used to produce batteries, as well as for rare land supply chains. This was reported today by the newspaper The Financial Times, citing sources that have been aware of this issue. According to the FTs, nodules in potato size formed at the bottom of the sea under high pressure for millions of years contain nickel, cobalt, copper and manganese – materials used in batteries, electrical wiring or weapons – as well as traces of rare land.
