The ongoing shift to telecommuting and learning led to the highest demand for laptops in Q4 2020 in the industry’s history. This led to a 54% year-on-year increase in sales. During the quarter, 69.7 million mobile computers were sold, and for the full year – 226.8 million. Such data are contained in a report prepared by experts of the analytical company Strategy Analytics.
The market leader is called Lenovo by analysts. The Chinese manufacturer shipped 17.9 million laptops in the quarter, up 47% from the fourth quarter of 2019. Lenovo managed to sell 54.9 million laptops in 2020. This is 24% more than in 2019. At the end of the quarter, the company occupies 25.6%, and if we talk about indicators for the year as a whole, Lenovo’s share in the global laptop market is 26.8%.
Second place is taken by HP. The maker shipped 15.8 million laptops in the quarter, up 64% from the fourth quarter of 2019. For the entire 2020, 52.2 million mobile computers were shipped, which is 39% more than in 2019. The share of HP at the end of the quarter was 22.6%, at the end of the year – 23.0%.
The third place belongs to Dell. It shipped 11.5 million laptops in the fourth quarter of 2020, which is 65% more than in the fourth quarter of 2019. For all of 2020, Dell managed to sell 35.4 million laptops. This is 28% more than in 2019. At the end of the quarter, Dell holds 16.6% of the market, and at the end of the year – 15.6%.
Apple is in fourth place. It shipped 6.3 million laptops during the quarter, increasing shipments by 58% on an annualized basis. In total, 19.7 million Apple laptops were sold in 2020, which is 26% more than in 2019. The share of the laptop market, owned by Apple, at the end of the quarter was 9.1%, at the end of the year – 8.7%.
Acer closes the top five. She shipped 5.6 million laptops in the quarter. This indicator increased by 59% over the year. For the entire 2020, Acer managed to ship 16.5 million laptops. This is 33% more than in 2019. The share of Acer at the end of the quarter is 8.0%, at the end of the year – 7.3%.
