At the mercy of bad weather Albania: 41 Greek minority villages without electricity

For the third day today, Monday (13/12) the 41 Greek minority villages of the Municipality of Dropoli in the prefecture of Argyrokastro in Albania remain without electricity. The prolonged rains of the last few days have flooded the high voltage substation in Argyrokastro, from where the area is supplied with electricity, as a result of which it has been shut down. In combination, no, with floods in plains, roads and villages, as well as the bitter cold has made the life of the inhabitants of Greek origin particularly difficult.

Problems due to bad weather also occurred in other parts of Albania. The water level in the Aoos river has exceeded the historical levels causing many areas in the southwestern part of the country to overflow and flood, especially in the final stage before the river reaches the sea. The water in the flooded areas has reached one meter. The problems in the prefectures of Avlona and Fieri are particular, according to the APE-MPE. Many houses and households have been flooded, while 50 families have been evacuated. Also, crops and livestock units have been destroyed.

Problems also occurred in areas in the north and south east of the country due to snowfall and the glacier.
