Athens to Tsavousoglou: ‘We have rejected with maps and letters all the Turkish accusations’

Athens was the immediate response to the new inflammatory statements made by the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu from the Occupied Territories, referring to the demagogy of Greece and that “the international community is crying that Turkey will attack it”.

Diplomatic sources told ERT that Greece has rejected all Turkish allegations with legal arguments based on international law.

“We will not enter into a sterile confrontation of statements. We have responded with maps and letters to all the Turkish accusations,” the same sources said.

From the Occupied Territories where Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu is today, he launched a new attack against Greece and Cyprus, in a new escalation of the aggressive rhetoric from Ankara.

In particular, the Turkish Foreign Minister claimed that “Greece is indulging in demagogy, dishonest rhetoric, and can not give a legal answer to Ankara’s letters.”

“He is crying,” he told the international community, adding that “Turkey will attack us.”

As for Cyprus, the Turkish Foreign Minister insisted on a “two-state solution”, while calling on Nicosia to recognize the sovereign equality of the Turkish Cypriots.

“We will examine the latest developments together with the negotiating team. Why is the Greek Cypriot side trying to reconstruct and resell the issues that it had previously brought to the agenda and to downgrade the negotiations, in the form of steps or confidence-building measures. Our stance “It is clear, but we always talk, consult and decide together,” he said.

“We have always gone through many difficulties with solidarity and hand in hand. Both the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish nation have never left the Turkish Cypriots. Therefore, we will overcome them, we will overcome them all. The important thing is to spoil the games they have set up for Cyprus.

We have been negotiating for the federation for years, but as you know, the Greek Cypriot side does not want to share anything with you, so they rejected all the plans, the Annan plan, all the models, all the proposals concerning the federation. He turned the table in Crans Montana and I was there. We already said before we left that this is the last time we are negotiating for the federation. After that, there is sovereign equality, not political equality. The solution of the two states therefore. Two states that will live side by side can cooperate in any way with each other.

If the Greek Cypriot side is sincere and wants to see the Turkish Cypriots as equals, it will recognize its political sovereignty and we will work together. For example, on the issue of hydrocarbons. “The Greek Cypriot side says that the Turkish Cypriots have rights in this matter, but when we say ‘let’s agree’ on a fair distribution, it starts saying ‘maybe later’ and does not even talk about the kind of cooperation.”
