Atmospheric blockade prevents rain formation in Brazil, says meteorologist

In an interview with CNN This Saturday (23), Climatempo meteorologist Noele Brito said that the atmospheric blockade that has settled in the central region of Brazil “prevents the formation of rain in the country”.

Atmospheric lockout is a weather system that can be associated with a period that is warmer or drier than normal. The meteorologist explained that the country is going through the second episode of the phenomenon this winter.

Brito pointed out that the Southeast and Center-West regions should continue with firm weather throughout Saturday, Sunday and early next week. “Even in the south of the country, temperatures are above average for this time of year,” he said.

“The cold fronts that pass through Rio Grande do Sul head towards the ocean. They cannot reach neither Santa Catarina nor Paraná. Without advancing polar masses, there is no decline in temperatures,” he added.

Brito pointed out that the atmospheric blockage also causes a drop in air humidity. “We recommend that people be more careful with hydration and avoid exposing themselves to the sun, especially if they have respiratory tract problems.”
