Attack in Canada with four dead: The perpetrator is accused of terrorism

The alleged perpetrator of the attack with a van set killed four members of the Afzaal Muslim family on June 6 in Canada accused of terrorism, became known by the prosecuting authority during a brief hearing before a court in London, Ontario.

The 20-year-old suspect Nathaniel Weltman had already been charged during a first hearing last week with premeditated murder and attempted murder, following an attack described as “terrorist” by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trinto.

“Attorneys at the federal and state levels have given their consent to initiate terrorism proceedings, noting that homicides and attempted homicides are also terrorist activities,” the Royal Canadian Gendarmerie (GRC) said in a statement. announcement after the hearing, as broadcast by APE-MPE.

The suspect, who has no criminal record or known connection to an extremist organization, said that ddoes not currently have a lawyer.

At the time of his arrest, he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

According to London police, the Veltman deliberately threw his truck at the Afzaal family in the context of a “premeditated energy, designed and instigated by hatred”.

Five members of the same family were killed while waiting to cross an intersection in the city of London, 200 km southwest of Toronto. Both parents, their 15-year-old daughter and 74-year-old grandmother, were killed, but their 9-year-old son, who was seriously injured, survived.

“This massacre was not an accident. “It was a hate attack, motivated by hatred, in the center of one of our communities,” Trinto said during a speech to the House of Commons.

The tragedy, which shocked the country, is the deadliest attack on Muslims in Canada since the shooting incident at the Quebec mosque, in which six people lost their lives in 2017.
