Attack in Sweden: 22-year-old Afghan suspect, according to media

An Afghan, 22 years old, who arrived in the country in 2018, is the suspect as the perpetrator of yesterday’s knife attack in Sweden, according to information published today by Swedish media.

The man had been living for a few months in the southern city of Vetlanda Sweden, where the attack took place, and police searched his home overnight, according to Aftonbladet and Expressen.

Police are investigating the motives of his action, without ruling out the possibility of a terrorist act, and have not confirmed his identity.

According to the authorities, he was known to the police for minor offenses and according to the local media, he was convicted for cannabis use.

According to police, The attack took place at noon yesterday in five different locations in downtown Vetland.. A short time later, the suspect was arrested after a police officer shot him in the leg.

Seven people were injured in the attack, which is considered potentially “terrorist”, according to a newer police report, as broadcast by Reuters and Agence France-Presse and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

Three of the injured are in critical condition and two have serious injuries.

The suspect is being treated and is unable to testify.

Sweden has twice been the scene of terrorist attacks in recent years, in 2010 and 2017.
