Attack on an Iranian ship in the Red Sea, bomb blast in its hull

The Iranian merchant ship Saviz was targeted while sailing in Red Sea, a day after press reports that he was targeted with magnetic bombs.

«The bomber struck shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday off the coast of Djibouti and caused minor property damage but no casualties. The ship was a civilian and was parked there to monitor the area for pirates, “said Saeed Khatibzadeh, a spokesman for the Iranian ministry.

“The incident is being investigated,” he added, as broadcast by AMPE.

On Tuesday night, the Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that an Iranian ship used by the country’s armed forces had been damaged in the Red Sea “by an explosion of magnetic bombs that had been placed in his hull “.

According to the specialized website MarineTraffic, the Saviz is a cargo ship owned by IRISL, an Iranian state-owned shipping company, and was built in 1999.

The incident occurred amid a climate of tension between Israel and Iran, with the two countries blaming each other since early March for attacks on each other’s ships.

Citing an official US source, the New York Times wrote that “The Israelis have informed the United States that their forces have been hit (Saviz on Tuesday) at around 07:30 local time “.

According to the same source, “the Israelis presented this attack in retaliation for previous blows by Iran against Israeli ships” while adding that “Saviz suffered damage below its water line”.

The Israeli authorities have not yet commented on the information in the American newspaper.

Speaking on Israeli radio this morning, Ram Ben Barak, a lawmaker and former deputy director of Mossad, said: “I do not know if this information is true or not, but if it is true, then it seems that someone wants to make it clear to the Iranians. “that we also know how to cause damage to ships wherever they are and that they should be more prudent.”
