At least 13 people died, including seven children, and more than 25 were injured after an attack that hit the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza on Tuesday (16), according to officials at the Al-Mártires Hospital. Aqsa.
The video, obtained exclusively by CNN from eyewitness Nihad Owdetallah, shows several victims spread out on the ground, including children, with blood flowing around the area.
Dozens of people appear to be running around in panic, screaming and trying to count and carry the bodies. A foosball table covered in dust is seen among the corpses.
Owdetallah, who lives in the camp, told CNN that he heard an explosion at around 3:40 pm local time on Tuesday, 30 to 40 meters away from him.
“I immediately walked over to see what happened and found dead bodies lying on the ground. People screaming, children screaming. Dead children on the floor. They were just playing foosball and were martyred,” he said.
Images filmed by CNN from inside Al-Aqsa Hospital Martyrs show a continuous stream of victims and injured people being carried away, while the emergency room is packed with patients, including several injured children, screaming on the floor. Family members are seen crowding over the dead bodies of their loved ones, kissing them, holding them and sobbing.
Video from inside a hospital morgue shows families trying to identify their loved ones among the deceased. Fatmeh Issa points to a white bag with a boy's bloody face exposed, telling the CNN : “This is my son.”
Another man shouts: “They have nothing to do with anyone! They are civilians. Have mercy on us. You are killing children. You are not killing an army or fighters; you are killing children who were playing peacefully in the street.”
The video shows him handing over the body of a young woman to another man, both of them shouting Quranic verses and sobbing. The man receiving her body is seen placing her on the ground, and covering her body with a jacket, telling the woman CNN that she is your daughter.
“This is my eldest daughter… her name is Lujain, she is nine years old. An attack hit them while they were playing in the street. They’re all just kids,” she adds.
Video from outside the hospital courtyard shows people looking distressed, especially women trying to enter the hospital, screaming for their loved ones.
A CNN contacted the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to seek deployment, but has not yet received a response.
