European leaders sent condolences to the victims of an attack on a Christmas market in Germany this Friday (20).
At least two people were killed and more than 60 were injured. The driver was arrested and acted alone, according to authorities.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz highlighted that “my thoughts are with the victims and their families. We stand alongside them and the people of Magdeburg.” He also thanked the rescuers.
António Costa, president of the European Council, said he was “shocked by the horrible news from Magdeburg”, adding that “the European Union stands in solidarity with Germany”.
Emmanuel Macron, president of France, wrote in X that he is “deeply shocked” by the attack. “France shares the pain of the German people and expresses its total solidarity,” he added.
Dick Schoof, Dutch Prime Minister, commented that “the Netherlands stands shoulder to shoulder with our German neighbors in these dark times”.
