Attack on Health is serious and citizens can be harmed, says expert

At dawn this Friday (10), the site Ministry of Health (www.saude.gov.br/) was down due to a hacker attack.

The message from the Lapsus$ Group, who claimed responsibility for the invasion, said that 50 terabytes of Dice have been removed from the system and are in the possession of the group.

In an interview with CNN, Arthur Church, a technology expert, said we can’t treat this attack as superficial. The incident is serious and the citizen could be harmed.

“We are talking about sensitive, unique data. It is different from a ‘username and password’. Here, we are possibly talking about intimate information, vaccination data, CPF, address. This goes beyond the ‘health’ subject”, he said.

According to the specialist, the hackers they can use this data to harm people — who are already being harmed by failing to issue a vaccination certificate, for example.

In addition, possession of the information opens the door to other infractions.

Arthur Igreja points out that the government needs to invest more heavily to prevent attacks.

“There is an urgent need for barriers to be erected. Cyber security is no different from security.”

Attacks occur as users are connected.

“The scammers understand that people are spending more time online, and that is why they are constantly trying to attack companies and public bodies”, he points out.

Only in the next hours and days will we understand the seriousness of all this, according to him.

Despite this, he warns that attacks are common and can happen again. “We have to assume that new attacks will happen, so it’s important to have contingency, not just data backup.”

A Federal police he called what happened hacktivism (the junction of hack + activism) — which has some political intent.

According to the expert, the invasion is ‘at least a coincidence about the fact of an attack on the Ministry of Health [focado no sistema da vacina] happen at the time the subject [passaporte da vacina] it’s so hot in Brazil.”

“Then we will have to consider the hypothesis that a successful attack would gain more attention”
