The Civil Police indicted this Thursday (26) the father of the 16-year-old teenager who, last Monday (23), carried out a shooting attack at the Sapopemba State School, in the east zone of São Paulo. Teenager Giovanna Bezerra da Silva, aged 17, died and three other students were injured.
On the morning of the attack, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) told the press that the weapon used in the crime belonged to the young man’s father.
The man, whose identity was not revealed, was charged with articles 12 and 13 of the Disarmament Statute, which correspond to the crimes of illegal possession of a weapon for permitted use (detention sentence of one to three years and a fine) and failure to exercise caution. (detention of one to two years and fine), when the person responsible fails to provide the necessary care to ensure that the minor does not have access to the firearm.
The case continues to be investigated by the 69th Police District (Teotônio Vilela), according to the State Public Security Secretariat.
In a note, the ministry informed that “the procedure will be forwarded to the Court for analysis”, and that “further steps are continuing to conclude the police investigation”.
The police are working on the hypothesis that the perpetrator of the attack, a 16-year-old teenager who was a student at the school, did not act alone.
According to police sources, the young man was part of groups on digital platforms and frequently interacted with other people, who may also be implicated in the investigation into the attack.
The teenager’s cell phone was seized for investigation. The Civil Police also requested support from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, which has a laboratory specialized in cybercrimes, to better understand how interactions took place on digital platforms.
The attack on the school took place early last Monday morning. Giovanna was reportedly hit on the unit’s stairs and died after being rescued. Two other 16-year-old girls were also hit and taken to the emergency room at Sapopemba State Hospital.
The third injured student injured his hand while trying to break a window in an attempt to escape the attack.
The teenager who fired the shots was arrested. The report was unable to locate his father to comment on the indictment and charges.
