Attack on Ukraine, protests also in Russian cities

The whole world took to the streets to protest the war in Ukraine and to support Kiev. From Rome to Berlin, from Paris to Washington, but also to Moscow and about fifty other Russian cities. According to the NGO Ovd-Info, at least 800 people have been arrested. It was since Alexei Navalnyi’s arrest in Russia in January last year that there have not been such large demonstrations across the country.

Half of these arrests were reportedly made during demonstrations in Moscow. The AFP agency confirms that it has witnessed dozens of arrests in Pushkin Square in the city center.

The risk is imprisonment for the many demonstrators, but also the inability to work for the many people in the entertainment world who have shown their support for Ukraine. Valery Meladze, music star, said on social media: «Today something happened that should never happen. History will judge. Now I want to ask you to stop milestone actions and sit down to negotiate ».

The Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev has published in the Instagram stories a drawing with the two countries embraced. Rublev plays doubles with the Ukrainian Molchanov. “We play a sport and sport always unites”. Maxim Galkin, husband of Russian celebrity Alla Pugacheva, posted a black photo with the words “I have been talking to friends and relatives in Ukraine since this morning. I can’t find the words to say what I feel. How is all this possible, there is no justification for war. No to war!”.

The director of the Novaya Gazeta Dmitry Muratov, Nobel Peace Prize winner, publishes tomorrow’s edition of the newspaper in both Russian and Ukrainian. «We do not recognize Ukraine as an enemy and the Ukrainian language as the language of the enemy. And we will never admit it ».
