Attacked by pitbulls, writer Roseana Murray is discharged after 13 days in hospital

Writer Roseana Murray, 73 years old, was discharged from hospital this Thursday morning (18) after spending 13 days at the Alberto Torres state hospital, in São Gonçalo, metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. The information was confirmed by the State Department of Health.

Roseana was seriously injured after being attacked by pitbulls while walking along the beach in Saquarema (RJ), Lagos Region, on the morning of the 5th.

Due to the several bites she received, the writer had her right arm and an ear amputated.

After leaving the hospital, Roseana will continue the recovery process at home.

Remember the case

Roseana was attacked by dogs around 6am on the 5th. The accident occurred on Avenida Ministro Salgado Filho, in Saquarema, the city where she lives. She was rescued by the Fire Department and taken by helicopter to the hospital in São Gonçalo.

The three people responsible for taking care of the dogs that attacked the writer were arrested on the same day as the accident for the crime of animal abuse. They will also be liable for failure to take care of animals and bodily harm. On the 11th, the court granted the trio freedom.

Who is Roseana Murray

Born in Botafogo, south of Rio de Janeiro, Roseana Murray is the daughter of Polish immigrants. She has a degree in French literature and has received the Best Poetry award four times from the National Children's and Young People's Book Foundation.

Roseana has published more than 100 books of short stories and poetry for readers of all ages.
