Attackers arranged a mining farm in the barn

The prosecutor’s office of the Kaluga region opened a criminal case against a group of miners, who organized a farm in a wooden barn. The damage from the activities of the illegal Kaluga crypto goods exceeded 6 million rubles. This is stated in a press release from the local prosecutor’s office.

Illegal mining farm in the Kaluga barn

According to the case file, in March 2025, employees of the Maloyaroslavets RES during a planned check found an unauthorized connection to power lines. The cable led to a wooden barn. There was a mining -farm in it.

Attackers connected the ASIC to the networks to the networks of PJSC “Rosseti Center and Volga” without a contract, bypassing accounting devices. During the searches, the police seized all the equipment of cryptocurrencies.

The prosecutor’s office opened the case of Part 2 of Art. 165 of the Criminal Code – causing property damage by deception on an especially large scale. The maximum punishment under this article is up to five years in prison.

“Gray” miners from the Irkutsk region

In 2024, the Russian authorities legalized cryptocurrency. Since November, individuals and legal entities engaged in mining should be registered in a special registry and pay taxes. However, not everyone does it.

The most popular place for “gray” miners is Irkutsk. For a long time, the region attracted illegal immigrants with cheap electricity tariffs. Last week there was detained another group of illegal miners who arranged a mining farm for 500 devices. Power engineers estimated the damage of 200 million.

Another of the last matters was connected with a woman from the village of Markovo in the Irkutsk region. She installed asic major on four land plots and illegally connected them to the mains. The damage from illegal consumption amounted to 12 million rubles.

The ban on crypto production does not work

From the first of January 2025, it is forbidden to obtain cryptocurrency in the regions of the North Caucasus and in the so -called new territories. In the Irkutsk region, Buryatia and the Trans -Baikal Territory, mining was banned only in the winter – from November 15 to March 15 to 2031.

Many experts believe that solving the problem in such ways will not work. In their opinion, restrictions in some regions of Russia will create an unfair competition between mining companies that work in the country.

Earlier it turned out that due to the ban on cryptowly, the Irkutsk electric networks did not receive 800 million rubles. The company representative said the decision to introduce restrictions on mining was “half.”
