Attacks on the State-owned Companies Law and Petrobras bring risks to the economy

Petrobras has a new president. Councilor Fernando Borges temporarily assumes command of the company, after José Mauro Coelho resigned from the company’s position on Monday (20), amid pressure caused by the new adjustment in diesel and gasoline prices.

The latest events generate debate about interference in the company’s management. It is worth noting that the State-owned companies law approved in 2016, came with the objective of creating a protection between company policy and governance.

However, analysts estimate that the current offensive on Petrobras ended up transforming this protection of the legislation into a kind of “enemy of Brazil”, amid successive increases in fuels due to the international scenario.

According to experts, the pressure from the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), could lead to an institutional setback beyond the debate on fuel prices.

Presented by Thais Herédia and Priscila Yasbek, the CNN Money presents a balance of news issues that influence markets, finances and the direction of society and the dynamics of power in Brazil and in the world.
