Auction house Sotheby’s will hold the first “live” auction for the sale of NFTs

One of the oldest auction houses in the world, Sotheby’s, plans to sell 104 CryptoPunk collectible tokens, and this will be the first “live” auction for the sale of NFTs.

According to statement Sotheby’s on Twitter, the auction will take place on February 23 in New York at 19:00 local time. There will be a “VIP Punk Dinner” for auction participants, as well as a party to the music of DJ SeedPhrase. The sale of tokens will take place on the Sotheby’s Metaverse platform.

This is far from the first auction for the sale of collectible tokens on the Sotheby’s platform, but it will be the first event with the physical presence of buyers. According to Bloomberg, the auction house sold $100 million worth of NFTs last year.

Recall that earlier CryptoPunks tokens were divided into two versions, and now instead of 10,000 NFTs, 20,000 tokens are circulating. In addition, Larva Labs, which released the collection, achievedto have CryptoPunks v1 removed from trading on the largest OpenSea platform.

Metaverse platforms integrating cryptocurrencies, as well as DeFi, NFT and decentralized cloud storage, are attracting more and more users who want new experiences. Grayscale estimates that the annual revenue of the metaverse will reach $1 trillion in the next few years.
