Auctioning relics of the “influence of God” is the work of Satan, says Archbishop

Soon, generation Y will have its first holy video game player when Carlo Acutis is canonized later this month. But auctioning relics allegedly linked to the “influencer of God” is not allowed, according to an Italian archbishop.

The statement came after an anonymous salesman tried to sell acutis hair hair.

The bids reached $ 2,200 before the lot was removed after Archbishop Domenico Sorrentino – which leads the Diocese of Assisi, where the Acutis body is being maintained and where the alleged relics were being auctioned – called the police.

Relics – from hair strands to bone fragments – have long been devotional items important to Catholic faithful, and the church encourages prayer before relics of saints and future saints, but canon law prohibits its sale, according to Sorrentino.

They can be donated by their owners or by bishops, as significant relics, such as hearts and organs, cannot be donated without Vatican permission. But this can never be for financial compensation, Sorrentino said in a video posted on the Diocese’s website.

“After checking the auction on the internet, we decided to file a complaint. To which the money idol can take. […] I fear that Satan has a hand on it, ”said the archbishop.

Sorrentino filed a complaint to the police in Perugia, who is investigating the sale of alleged relics.

“We ask for their apprehension,” Sorrentino said on the diocese’s website.

“We do not know if the relics are real or false, but even if everything was invented, if we were mistaken, we would be in the presence of not only a blow but also of an insult to religious sentiment.”

“The relic business business is predominant,” added Sorrentino.

“On the internet, there is a relic market that concern several saints, such as our Francisco [de Assis]with a price list. Something [que é] Impossible to accept, ”he said.

Acutis, who died of leukemia in 2006 at age 15, is widely recognized as a Christian life model for faithful young people and who, according to Sorrentino, will be a kind of “patron saint of the internet” when he is canonized.

The ceremony will take place in St. Peter’s Square, in Vatican City, on April 27.
