In a period in which we are (still) all called to enjoy audiovisual products in the privacy of our homes, it is Audiovisiva, the new streaming on demand platform, that ensures the selection of the best documentaries on protagonists of Italian culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The meeting with architects, designers, artists, photographers, directors, musicians that tell iconic stories, anecdotes and projects is, in fact, the beating heart of an innovative model of cultural enjoyment that aims to promote Italian culture in the world through the use of the documentary.
The platform, which combines a strong cultural vocation with content research and care, is presented as one multi-channel distribution on international markets, aimed at encouraging the birth of a new model in Italy for the use of audiovisual use educational, that is, for teaching and research. Audiovisiva is proposed, in fact, as the privileged means to give the widest legal, technological and linguistic diffusion and accessibility to a heritage that has hitherto been highly fragmented, not very usable and valued. I’m over 300 documentaries – of which the first 40 are available for viewing – the highlight of a platform that collects, for the first time, the non-fiction documentary heritage of Italian culture, gradually making films accessible online that were not available until recently, cataloged by name of the protagonist or by reference field – art, architecture and design, photography, film on film. Researchers, professionals, museum curators, enthusiasts, onlookers, teachers and students will thus have an unprecedented map at their disposal to immerse themselves in the Italian culture.
Founded by Francisca Parrino, Alessandra de Antonellis and Barbara Carneglia as a Social Enterprise thanks to the support of Fondazione Cariplo, which has selected it among the most interesting innovative start-ups in the cultural landscape, today Audiovisiva is the only Italian reality admitted to Eurovod, the network of independent European VOD platforms, and the first Italian aggregator for the Kanopy educational platform. It is a system cultural project which involves both audiovisual actors and archives, foundations, sector festivals and museums, representing an unprecedented mode of use for the user and a new opportunity for visibility, distribution and contact with the public. To maximize the possibility of access to documentaries by users all over the world, Audiovisiva proposes a multi-channel distribution model without territorial restrictions: the films in the catalog are, in fact, accessible, depending on the case, through the Audiovisiva store or through third-party platforms such as iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Video (only for US, UK), Vimeo on demand, Kanopy.
In particular, on the model of some large international platforms, Audiovisiva also offers an educational streaming service specifically designed for schools and universities, who can buy access packages to offer to their students and teachers to watch the selected films for free through a dedicated coupon code with individual use: a proposal already widely used abroad, which Audiovisiva also wants to bring to Italian schools and universities. The goal is, of course, to spread the cultural documentary and to give visibility and support to those who produce it. In the case of paid documentaries, 70% of the proceeds from sales are destined to support the creative and production chain and to those who hold the rights to the work (in most cases the director, since they are independent productions).
