AUKUS – von der Leyen: The way France was treated is “unacceptable”

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen described as “unacceptable” the way in which the France under the US Defense Cooperation Agreement with Australia and Britain (AUKUS).

“One of our member states was treated in an unacceptable way (…) We want to know what happened and why,” von der Layen told CNN tonight.

Ursula von der Leyen is the first one reacting to the announcement of this agreement by the so-called AUKUS, which resulted in the cancellation by Australia of the so-called “contract of the century” for the supply of 12 conventional French submarines, amounting to 56 billion euros, broadcasts AFP.

On Friday, the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell said no one had consulted or informed the EU. for this strategic partnership in the Indo-Pacific region.

It is noted that the Union Foreign Ministers will consider later tonight the consequences of this agreement, in the two-hour meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. This meeting will be chaired by Borel, who will then inform about its results.
