According to the Pentagon statement, “Defense Minister Lloyd Austin spoke by telephone today with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar to thank Turkey for its long and significant support in the mission at Hamid Karzai International Airport. They agreed to stay in touch on any future arrangements at the airport.
The minister (Lloyd Austin) thanked Minister Akar for his condolences for the American soldiers who were lost in yesterday’s attack in Kabul. “The minister reaffirmed the ongoing US-Turkey defense relationship, as recently demonstrated by the strong cooperation between the two countries in Afghanistan.”
