Australia: Retail sales rise 0.5% m/m in June vs. 0.2% expected

Australia’s retail sales, a measure of the country’s consumer spending, rose 0.5% month-on-month in June after increasing 0.6% in May, according to official data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on Wednesday.

The reading was above market expectations of 0.2% growth.

Market reaction to Australian retail sales data

At the time of writing, the AUD/USD pair down 0.74% on the day to 0.6485, mainly dragged down by weaker-than-expected RBA Core Consumer Price Index (CPI) data.
