Thousands of people opposed to the COVID-19 vaccine gathered today in several Australian cities.
Nearly 85% of Australians aged 16 and over have been fully vaccinated and have returned to almost normal life.
Protesters gathered today in the country’s largest cities to protest against the mandatory vaccination, which is only in force in some states and territories for certain categories of professionals.
In Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, several thousand people protested demanding the imprisonment of state Prime Minister Daniel Andrews and protesting against a bill aimed at giving more power to her government to fight the pandemic.
No clashes were reported with police in contrast to previous demonstrations.
According to police, up to 10,000 people also gathered in Sydney, including vaccinators.
In Melbourne, about 2,000 people demonstrated in parallel to express their opposition to the anti-vaccination rally, one of the first in the country since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’m here because I’m disgusted with what ‘s happening on the streets of my hometown of Melbourne,” said Maureen Hill, who took part in the anti – vaccination march.
Australia, a country of more than 25 million people, has recorded more than 195,000 cases of the new coronavirus and 1,933 deaths from COVID-19 since the pandemic broke out.
