6.5 meters high, almost as big as two floors of a building, and 30 meters long, about the size of a basketball court, had a dinosaur which was discovered in Australia and was named “Australotitan” (or “South Titan”).
It is one of the ten to 15 largest dinosaurs ever discovered on Earth and the largest on Australia.
According to AMPE, fossilized parts of the giant dinosaur skeleton, scientifically named Australotitan cooperensis, were first discovered in the Eromanga area of southwest Queensland in 2007, so excavations began, which continue.
The scientists, who – after a long study of the fossils – have now made the announcement in the scientific journal PeerJ, according to the “New York Times” and the BBC, estimate that it was a herbivorous dinosaur of the group of foxes, with a very long neck, long tail and legs like pillars, weighing 70 tons and lived 92 to 96 million years ago.
Because Australia is mostly flat and without mountain ranges and gorges, which would gradually expose fossils due to rock erosion, is considered one of the most difficult places in the world to discover dinosaur bones. Discoveries are usually made by farmers who locate fossils when they come to the surface.
