Austria: 41% of the population are fully vaccinated

More than five million Austrians – exactly 5,005,125 or 56% of a total population of 8.9 million, had received at least the first dose of vaccination against the coronavirus until midnight on Friday, according to the current data of the Electronic Vaccination Bulletin.

The target of five million people vaccinated by the end of June is reportedly back by nine days, as Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurtz assured in early April that anyone wishing to be vaccinated would receive the first dose by the end of June. In early June the target was revised downwards.

As of midnight on Friday, 3,662,891 people in the country, or 41% of the population, had received both doses of the vaccine, fully immunized, a significant percentage given the much more contagious “Delta” mutation. , as, as noted, complete immunization provides adequate protection against this variant.

In a statement, Health Minister Wolfgang Mukstein said he was pleased that the target had been missed, adding that “this is an incredible achievement and shows what we can do together to fight the pandemic”.

He also stressed the importance of full immunization, saying that “in order to be able to offer all of us the best possible protection against new strains of viruses, it is very important that everyone completes their vaccination schedule as soon as possible. “Current data and the results of our research show that this greatly increases the protective effect against the Delta mutation.”

“If you have not yet received a vaccination, use this simple and varied offer now, and let us use the summer together to prepare as best we can for the autumn,” said the Minister of Health.
