Austria: Carl Nehamer, the next Chancellor

“Locked” the person who will become her next chancellor Austria, as the leadership of the ruling Conservative Party elected the Minister of Interior Carl Nehamer as party leader, as reported by the APA agency and confirmed himself.

“I was unanimously appointed today by the leadership of the Conservative Party (ÖVP) as chairman of the party and, consequently, a candidate for the post of chancellor,” Carl Nehammer told reporters in Vienna. The 49-year-old politician announced on this occasion wide-ranging government reshuffle. “The PVP is a party that works towards the future, without forgetting the foundation of its values,” Nehamer said after his election, expressing his respect for the former party leader and the parliamentary group. Sebastian Kurtz, who yesterday announced that he is leaving politics. Answering a relevant question, Mr. Nehamer said that the Chancellery was not his target, but today he feels joy, gratitude and respect and put the pandemic and immigration as his main priorities. As Minister of Interior, he had followed a very strict line regarding illegal immigration and Islamist currents, as reported by APE-MPE.

THE Alexander Salenberg, who served as chancellor following the resignation of Sebastian Kurtz, who is under investigation for a corruption scandal, will again take over the leadership of the Foreign Ministry.

The candidate for chancellor announced that Magnus Bruner, Deputy Minister of Environment, takes over the Ministry of Finance and the Gerhard Corner the Ministry of Interior.

Carl Nehammer will be the fifth Austrian chancellor to take office since 2016. The date of his inauguration has not been announced.
