Austria: Chancellor Carl Nehammer to visit Kyiv in the coming days

Chancellor Carl Nehammer said today that “in the coming days” he will visit Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, the chancellery in Vienna announced today. For security reasons, it was not announced exactly what day the visit will take place.

The aim is “to continue the best possible humanitarian and political support to Ukraine,” the chancellor said in a statement. Austria, as it is pointed out, has already allocated 17.5 million euros from the External Disaster Fund and “soon” will deliver new humanitarian aid.

In a commentary, the Austrian newspaper Der Standard points out that “it is good that Chancellor Karl Nehamer is going to Kyiv to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky”, as, as he points out, “the gestures are useful and because they could help ensure that “Finally, any plans to assassinate the Ukrainian president by gangs will be rejected.”

Such signs of solidarity, the columnist continues, “are very important, given the insanity, which has now become almost official in Russia” and notes yesterday’s statement by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier that “with Vladimir Putin “The West must agree that (Vladimir) Putin must not win this war. “Europeans. But there is no other way.”
