Former Austrian Vice Chancellor and κούVP leader Erhard Buzek has died in the state of Maine today at the age of 81, the Danube and Central Europe Institute recently announced.
Erhard Buzek was ÖVP leader from 1991 to 1995. At the same time he was also vice-chancellor in the grand coalition with the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) and minister first of Economy and Research and then Minister of Education.
Buzek was also the last Special Coordinator of the Pact for South Eastern Europe, a position from which he was an ardent supporter of the European perspective of the Balkan countries, while he was also the Special Representative of the Austrian Government for the accession of Austria to the European Union.
