The sharp rise in coronavirus cases in Austria is causing serious problems for schools, with 2,600 of the 58,000 classrooms and nine schools shutting down and continuing to teach online.
According to the newspaper Der Standard, in Vienna alone every sixth grade of primary school and every ninth kindergarten is closed due to cases. In addition, 5% of teachers are positive and remain in quarantine.
According to the current regulations, if a case is found, the class is checked daily for five days. If during this period a new case is found and can not be attributed to another contact, the whole class is quarantined and continues with distance learning. For the time being, however, according to the competent services, no classes have been canceled due to the absence of teachers.
