From today, Monday 15 November, in Austria, total lockdown for those over 12 years old and not “fully immunized”: they will no longer be able to go out except for go to work, go shopping or take a “walk”. Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced this at the end of a meeting between the federal executive and the prime ministers of the Länder.
Thus, the government of Vienna also ordered a new closure for the unvaccinated for at least 10 days, as is already the case in Upper Austria and Salzburg. The measure affects around 2 in 8.9 million Austrians.
“We need to raise the percentage of vaccinated people: it’s shamefully low,” explained Schallenberg. “We are not a police state and we cannot and do not want to control every street corner, but checks by law enforcement will be accurate».
For offenders, harsh penalties are foreseen. There fine will be 3600 euros for employers that will allow an employee to work without a vaccine, without a certificate of recovery within six months or without a rapid or molecular negative swab, but also for those who will not verify compliance with the rules in restaurants, bars, pastry shops, sports facilities, hairdressers, services to the person, cinemas and theaters. Who will violate the total lockdown will be able to receive one fine of up to 1450 euros.
In Austria only 65% of citizens received two doses vaccine, while 67.8% one: it is one of the lowest vaccination rates in Europe. Now, however, only fully vaccinated or cured people will be able to access all the places where, until now, it was possible to enter even with only a negative swab made in the previous 24 hours. The restrictions, from “3G” (“geimpft, genesen oder getestet”, “vaccinated, cured or tested”), become 2G (“Geimpft, genesen”, “vaccinated or cured”). In Italy, however, so far, the Green Pass is also granted with a quick anti Covid test.
Then, from 6 December, the Green Pass in Austria it will be valid for nine months after the second vaccination, and can only be extended with the third dose.
