Author publicly scolded reader for her review but… paid for it by the rest of us

It has caused reactions on BookTok, a community on TikTok that focuses on books and literature, a young author’s attack on a reader for giving her a 4-star review instead of a 5-star one on Goodreads.

Sara Stusek, who works in film production, has released her first book titled “Three Rivers,” scheduled to hit the market in September. It is an autobiographical novel aimed at young adults, and its plot is summed up by this quote from SparkPress: “Two strangers kidnap Stella from her room in the middle of the night and take her to Three Rivers, a treatment program about troubled teenagers in the wilderness.”

According to what the author has shared on TikTok, the book has many autobiographical elements, since she herself had experienced in her adolescence an adventure similar to that of the heroine she describes in her book.

In particular, Carly Kebartas, who works in nursing homes, wrote of Three Rivers as “a great first book” for Stusek, which she enjoyed, despite the fact that their endings “were kind of predictable.” Kebarta’s review was accompanied by their very good rating 4 stars instead of the perfect 5th something that greatly annoyed the author.

I had a perfect average 5 stars up toThis bitch appeared. You wrote “the end is predictable”. This is about my life, not some murder mystery story. You wrote that “other than that it was great”. Why did you give me 4 stars then?’ Stusek burst out. However, her plan to vent on BookTok about the injustice she suffered backfired as the vast majority of BookTokers turned against her.

Before the platform finally decided to “close” the reviews, the book “Three Sisters” had collected more than 500 reviews with one and only star, engulfing the medium as much as its rating. As reported by the Daily Mail, the publishing house SparkPress which took over its publication announced that it was ending its collaboration with Stusek “for a number of reasons, including the attacks she launched against a reader who wrote a review and others online.”
