As it became known from an announcement by the Authorities, the police were informed about the incident by a person who knew about the incident.
The information about the ceremony emerged during an interrogation by the police, on August 27, of a man in disguise, who was dressed in women’s clothing, Delta Police spokesman Edafe Bright said in a statement late last night. The announcement, however, and according to APE, does not say when the raid took place.
THE clothing, the act in which a person wears clothing and other accessories associated with the opposite sex, is not illegal, but tends not to be socially acceptable. “The police chased and arrested a total of them 67 suspects both male and female who allegedly performed and participated in a same-sex wedding ceremony,” Bright said, adding that efforts are being made to arrest others who escaped.
The researchers revealed that a guest in condition drunkwho was arrested during the raid, allegedly rushed by a suspect who then fled, Bright noted.
In Nigeria, as in most parts of Africa, homosexuality is generally considered unacceptable. A 2014 law against homosexuality went into effect, despite international outcry.
The law against homosexuals in this most populous country in Africa provides imprisonment for up to 14 years for convicted felons and prohibits same-sex marriage, same-sex relationships, and membership in gay rights organizations.
