Authorities investigate a letter related to the attack in Washington

Shortly after the attack that left two employees of the Israeli embassy killed in Washington, DC, on Wednesday night, a long letter that authorities are investigating as potentially written by the alleged shooter was published on social networks defending violent retaliation by war in Gaza.

The letter was published in an X account that has a long history of expressing indignation with Israel’s treatment to Palestinians.

An analysis of CNN About this X account, @kyotoleather, found that she is linked to other accounts with the name and photo of Elias Rodriguez, a 30 -year -old man from Chicago that the authorities identified as the alleged shooter and included answers in which other users called him by name.

Authorities are also investigating whether the account was by Rodriguez, according to several police sources.

The letter published on Wednesday expressed fury by the “atrocities committed by the Israelis against Palestine” and referred to “armed action” as a valid form of protest-one that is “the only sensible thing to do.”

FBI deputy director Dan Bongino said in an X publication that “the FBI is aware of certain writings allegedly written by the suspect, and we hope to have updates on authenticity soon.”

Police say Rodriguez approached a group of four people in front of the capital’s Jewish museum and opened fire with a firearm killing two people who worked for the Israeli embassy. Police stopped Rodriguez about 20 minutes after the shooting. While he was detained, a video showed him shouting, “Free, free Palestine!”

The letter was sent to X after the attack, it is unclear who sent it or if it was a pre-scheduled post before the incident.

The letter describes the author’s anger with the perception of lack of action by Western and Arabs governments to prevent Israel’s war in Gaza, defends armed action and compares it to non -violent forms of protest.
