Authorities name Frank James as suspect in NYC subway shooting

New York authorities are now naming Frank James as a suspect in connection with the Brooklyn subway shooting.

New York Police (NYPD) Spokesperson Lt. Thomas Antonetti told CNN that the investigation allowed him to be referred to as a suspect.

Police believe he is responsible for the shooting, Antonetti said.

Investigators have previously looked at James as a suspect, and believe he rented a U-Haul van, which was linked to the shooting at the 36th Street subway station in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

James, 62, has addresses in Wisconsin and Philadelphia, where the van was rented, said NYPD chief detective James Essig.

The van was recovered near the station and was released by the NYPD bomb squad, police said. The van will be transported to a forensic examination site where federal and local authorities can examine the vehicle in a controlled environment, a senior official told CNN.

New York Mayor Eric Adams told CNN this morning that “let’s get the person. We will bring her to justice and hold her accountable for this horrible act against innocent people.”

In total, 29 people were hospitalized in connection with the shooting with injuries that included gunshot wounds, smoke inhalation or falling while trying to escape, officials said.
