Teams from the Mato Grosso State Environment Department (Sema-MT) found, on Tuesday afternoon (27), that there was no change in the water quality of the blue-tinged waterfall, last Sunday (25), in Tangará da Serra, a municipality located about 250 kilometers from Cuiabá.
The waters were colored during a “revelation tea”, an event organized for a couple to discover the sex of the baby they are expecting. The blue color indicated that the parents will have a male child.
The images of the event reverberated on social media and raised suspicions about the possibility of contamination and damage to the local fauna and flora. The municipal secretary of the Environment of Tangará da Serra, Vinicius Lançone, told CNN that the case was reported to the city hall through several channels.
Analysis
Water samples were analyzed after Sema-MT agents visited the site together with representatives of the municipality of Tangará da Serra, on Monday (26). According to the secretary, during the visit, there was no visual change in the physical parameters of the water, such as color and odor, and there were no deaths of animals. The laboratory analysis of the water showed no change in quality.
Also according to Sema-MT, the person responsible for dyeing the waters of the waterfall has already been identified and must appear at the headquarters of the environmental agency for the due assessment.
Although environmental damage was not found, there was conduct in disagreement with the legislation. Federal Decree No. 6,514/2008 defines as liable to environmental infraction “to throw solid, liquid or gaseous waste or debris, oils or oily substances in disagreement with the requirements established in laws or normative acts”. Fines and other penalties will be defined and applied after a technical report prepared by the environmental agency.
By phone, the baby’s father, who appears in the filming, said that the event was a surprise to the couple, who did not know any details about the organization and repudiated the negative repercussion directed at him and the pregnant woman.
The waterfall that appears in the images is on private property. THE CNN contacted the company that owned the land, but got no response.
